One of the first free agents that the Buccaneers reached out to at the free agency onset was CB Eric Wright. The Bucs made a clear and decisive point to sign Wright when they agreed to a $37.5 million dollar contract to acquire his services.
Up to this point of the OTAs Wright has been seen only sparingly. This has left a great deal of fans wondering what circumstances were holding Wright back from attending. Well you will be glad to know that Wright attended today's mandatory mini-camp. When asked of Wright's absence from previous OTAs HC Greg Schiano would only say that Wright had an undisclosed illness that Wright had to handle.
When Wright was asked of his absence he responded: “I had a few personal issues that I had to deal with,” said Wright, who wasn't with the team for the three recent OTAs open to media. "That’s typical for the off season. But most importantly, I’m here for mini camp and feeling good. So, I’m out here running around.” “(Coaches) do a great job explaining everything. They do a great job breaking it down. It’s very detail oriented. It’s easy being here learning and picking up on everything.”
Wright is well aware of the contract the Buccaneers provided him and their expectations. He is ready to meet and exceed those expectations. “It’s a big responsibility,” he said. “They obviously did their due diligence and figured out what they wanted to do. They chose me and I’m appreciative of that. I’m going to go out there and work as hard as possible to make them right.”
If CB Aqib Talib's football career survives his upcoming legal hurdle and with Ronde Barber moving to safety and the acquisition of Mark Barron from the draft, the Buccaneers have the ability to field an above average defensive backfield.
