Dakota Corvin win's the first guest write in contest!
The winner of our first week's "guest write-in" is Dakota Corvin. Good job Dakota. Here's your post:
Mason Foster had the most tackles for Tampa Bay his rookie season. While battling ankle injuries, dead legs, and learning a new defense, Foster started at Middle Linebacker for 15 out of 16 games, and totaled a team-high 126 tackles.
In Foster’s college career he played outside linebacker at Washington. He was named first-team All-America by Scouts.com, and his senior year was second in the nation for tackles. He totaled 378 tackles in college, and was the Pac-10 conference leader for two years.
I think in this upcoming 2012 season Mason Foster will be a breakout player. Even if he isn’t the Middle Linebacker and plays on the outside, he will have a full offseason to correct his mistakes, and learn the playcalling. Although Tampa may be running a new scheme this season, I do believe Foster can adapt quickly. Just like how he did with no offseason last year. Now with the additions through the draft, like Lavonte David, I believe Foster will have the help he needs to show true talent. Although a big factor in the LB’s performance is with the defensive line. While McCoy has flashed signs of greatness, he’s also been injured in both of his two seasons, which really hurts the rest of the defense. If the line isn’t putting pressure on the QB, it makes everyone else look worse. Though if the line is playing good, it will make everyone on the defense more comfortable and look better.
Learning the roles of every defensive position is on Foster’s plate, because being the Mike Backer (MLB) he will need to call audibles. But look for him to shine next year, because with a full offseason to prepare and all of last season to learn from his mistakes, Mason Foster feels he can do it.
“It was definitely tough, but I thought I could handle it,” Foster said. “Having the time now to sit at home and study your playbook and come talk to the coaches at any time during the day, being able to sit and go over stuff, that definitely gives you an advantage. I see what I was missing last year.”
